Motorcycle Driver Killed in Lakeland Accident Today

LAKELAND | A Lakeland man was killed this morning when his motorcycle was struck from behind on Griffin Road.

Damian Kyle Hernandez, 23, of Lakeland was traveling in his 2004 Nissan east behind the 2004 Honda motorcycle driven by Kenneth B. Spooner, 68, of Lakeland. Lakeland Police suspect Hernandez was driving at a high speed when it hit the motorcycle about 2 a.m. The Honda then flipped and came to rest on its roof about a quarter mile from the scene of the accident.
Spooner was pronounced dead on [the] scene by emergency medical personnel.
After the accident, Hernandez fled on foot but was apprehended by police. Hernandez has been arrested and charges are pending.
