Subject:Update on fence & Armadillo's:
I have tried to telephone the owners. Some, I have left messages. All to no avail informing them that there is a problem with skirting, slats and Armidillos.
Chicken-wire patching was placed over the man-sized hole in the fence at the end of Pink Lady. This is temporary at best. The rest of the fence has collapsed and is overgrown with vegetation and has not been fixed. This needs attention.
The fence behind Silversides Lot # 50 (Frick) has been climbed through multiple times under the top barbed-wire fencing from the Lake Thomas side or our side. I can not tell from which direction because the fence is so mis-shapened as to render its value for security as questionable.
The armadillo diggings under the fence continue to increase in number. Past patching and filling under the fence have not been an effective deterrent.
In addition, the new fence that was placed from the SLR Gate to SLOA Lot # 40 (Overflow Underground Pipe Lot) is 4-5 inches off the ground thereby allowing critters easy access into the resort without even having to dig. Something, I do not know what, needs to be done to secure the fence to the ground.
July and August are Armadillo mating season with young to be born about four months out. In my opinion, if they remain here to have their young, we will be overrun by November-December.
There were eleven critter sightings while on our five hour patrol Friday. There are more. They are looking for a cool place. Queen of Waters has the record with a sighting of five. A sixth one was found dead by a QW resident.
Finally, I think our old fence is nearly as old as our resort. If I am correct, that would make the fence over 40 years old. Perhaps, it might be time to think about replacing it IF the reserves and budget would allow it. Securing the new fence to the ground and stretching good barbed-wire at the top would eliminate any future problems with any two or four-legged animal gaining entrance from the grove side.
Thank you for your support for the CAP Program and the honor for the opportunity to serve Saddlebag Lake Resort.
