September marks the beginning of the return of our northern friends and neighbors to beautiful Saddlebag Lake Resort. CAP is pleased to note the re-opening of 31 homes in our resort.
We are also pleased to note the arrival of one new home on Stone Fly. Welcome to all of our returning and new homeowners.
Currently, Hurricane Florence is predicted to make landfall Friday (September 14, 2018) at or near Wilmington, NC, with possible but not certain Category four winds of approximately 140 mph. Of course, the trajectory and speed of any hurricane may change over time.
Mid-Atlantic ocean temperature are now 3-5 degrees above normal making the National Weather Service somewhat nervous about Isaac and Helene that are now forming off the coast of Africa. No weather predictions have yet been made as to landfall, confirmed trajectory or speed of Isaac or Helene as of the time of this report.
This week marks the beginning of “peak" hurricane probability with “peak" STATISTICAL day of probability on September 10, 2018, according to the National Weather Service. The date does not represent a certainty that a hurricane will strike every year on September 10, 2018, rather it is an average.
Our summer time CAP Crew have maintained 8 hour per day daytime patrols for 14 days in a row for over 112 hours served with three hours to spare. We are so very proud of the dedication of our summer and winter CAP personnel
They are doing a great job serving an amazing 115 hours of daytime patrolling for the last two weeks despite searing daytime temperatures, frequent afternoon pop-up showers and avoiding 24-hour drying periods on asphalt coated streets.
The months of October and November will bring in new CAP Patrols as new members are trained by the Polk County Sheriff's Department and placed on the Saddlebag Lake Resort Schedule.
Buck & Sandi Smith,CAP Coordinators
